Polisario Front Strongly Refutes Morocco’s Claims

  • The Polisario Front firmly refutes the claims of the Moroccan occupation state before the United Nations regarding Western Sahara.

The representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations and coordinator of the United Nations Mission to organize the referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Sidi Mohamed Ammar, refuted the claims made by the representative of the Moroccan occupying state at the United Nations regarding Western Sahara, stressing that they are unfounded and will never change. The nature of the problem is that it is a question of decolonization.

The representative of the Polisario Front said in a statement that during the Security Council discussion on “the role of youth in addressing security challenges in the Mediterranean region”, the representative of the Moroccan occupying state once again claimed that Western Sahara “was irreversibly restored in 1975+, in addition to other false claims that are not worth commenting on”.

Sidi Ammar stressed that this unfounded claim “represents a disregard for everyone’s intelligence and clearly shows that the representative of the Moroccan occupying state has once again exceeded all limits of common sense in his futile attempts to mislead the Member States of the United Nations”.

The Saharawi Ambassador stated that “it is well known that the United Nations General Assembly and its subsidiary bodies continue to address the issue of Western Sahara as a matter of decolonization under Chapter Eleven of the United Nations Charter, with its constant emphasis on the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, in accordance with General Assembly Res. 1514 (D-15) of December 14, 1960, containing the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples”.

The representative of the Polisario Front continued: “Why do the General Assembly and its subsidiary bodies, as well as the Security Council, continue to consider the issue of Western Sahara as an issue of decolonization, in the case of the General Assembly, and as an issue of peace and security, in the case of the Security Council, as confirmed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in his report of July 27, 2002, presented to the seventy-eighth session of the General Assembly?

Accordingly, he added, “the representative of the Moroccan occupying state will never be able to answer any of these frank questions, because they prove, among other things, the indisputable fact that Morocco has been an illegal occupying force of Western Sahara since 1975, in violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the purposes and principles of the Constitutive Act of the African Union”.

He concluded by saying: “Indeed, the facts are difficult to hide and the unfounded allegations made by the representative of the Moroccan occupying state will never change this fact.”
