Italy Eager to Boost Energy Cooperation with Algeria

  • Excellent partnership relations between Algeria and Rome

Italy confirmed its desire to scale up bilateral cooperation with Algeria in the field of energy, highlighting investment opportunities and ways to exchange experiences between companies of the two friendly countries, especially with regard to hydrocarbons, developing renewable energies, and reducing the carbon footprint.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, conferred during his meeting, on Tuesday, at the headquarters of his ministerial department, with the diplomatic advisor to the Italian Prime Minister, in charge of the “Mattei Plan”, Fabrizio Saggio, about the state of the relations of cooperation and partnership between the two countries, which are described as excellent in the field of energy and mines, and the prospects for strengthening them.

Mr. Saggio gave a presentation on the “Matti Plan,” which takes its name from Enrico Matti, founder of the Italian energy company “Eni,” and which aims to strengthen cooperative relations with African countries, by helping them develop their natural resources.

The same official added that Italy aims to cooperate in the fields of energy and infrastructure, as well as diversifying supply chains, to ensure energy security and achieve economic and sustainable development in many other fields such as agriculture, health, water, training, research and development, and others.

Mr. Saggio also expressed Italy’s desire, in cooperation with the Algerian state, to promote the field of training and training regionally in many fields such as energy.

The two sides discussed business and investment opportunities and ways and means of exchanging experiences and expertise between companies of the two countries, especially with regard to hydrocarbons, developing new and renewable energies, reducing the carbon footprint and transferring knowledge and technology.

On the other hand, the Minister of Energy and Mines, in turn, provided an overview of the various sector programs to develop new and renewable energies and develop the production of natural gas and electricity, welcoming the progress achieved in the partnership process between the two countries.

Mr. Arkab appreciated Italy’s efforts to enhance and intensify cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests with African countries, which aims to stimulate investments and improve infrastructure, through the Mattei Plan, especially in the energy field, which is considered the engine of social and economic growth, especially in Africa.
