Palestinian State Is Preriquisite For Arab Region’s’ Stability

  • Diplomat Ahmed Sahraoui: “Algeria’s firm support for the Palestinians is a natural support dictated by the bounden duty of brotherhood, its history, and its struggle against colonialism”.

Algeria stressed, during a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the use of the veto by the United States of America in the UN Security Council against a draft resolution submitted by Algeria recommending that the General Assembly accept Palestine as a full member state in the United Nations, that it believes that the establishment of a Palestinian state is… An imperious condition for stability in the Arab region.

The diplomat of the Permanent Mission of Algeria in New York, Mr. Ahmed Sahraoui, explained during the session, on Wednesday, that “Algeria’s support for the Palestinians is a natural support dictated by its duty of brotherhood, its history and its bitter struggle against colonialism,” noting that from this standpoint, “it was logical for Algeria, which witnessed… Its land is the declaration of the independence of Palestine by the late Yasser Arafat on November 15, 1988, which sparked off the demand for Palestine’s membership in the United Nations and for it to work during its membership in the Security Council to achieve this.”

He pointed out that “Algeria fully believes that Palestine’s natural place in this organization is that of a member like other members of our General Assembly,” noting what the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, confirmed from this platform last September: “We stress that the time has come for Palestine to “It becomes a full member of the United Nations, and we will spare no effort until this goal is achieved.”

Mr. Sahraoui added that Palestine’s request for membership in the United Nations is an expression of the Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination, and that the fact that Palestine fulfills all the conditions for membership, which were set by the founding fathers of the United Nations and carefully formulated in Article Four of the Charter, is “an indisputable fact.” Pointing out that “Palestine is a peace-loving state and has undertaken to commit itself to what is contained in the Charter. It is able and willing to implement these obligations, and this is a reality recognized by more than two-thirds of the members of the United Nations General Assembly who recognize Palestine as a state.”

The diplomat of the Algerian mission called on the members of the Security Council to listen to the voice of the international group and recommend Palestine’s membership in the United Nations, noting that “the Security Council, in accordance with Article 24 of the Charter, acts as a representative of the members of the United Nations, and therefore it is not right for the Commissioner to violate the wishes of the majority of the members, who have the original jurisdiction to implement the provisions.” Charter of the United Nations”.

The same diplomat further underscored that Palestine’s full membership of the United Nations is a step towards achieving permanent and just peace in the Middle East, and is also considered a safeguard for the Palestinian state approved by all United Nations resolutions and unanimously agreed upon by the international community.
