Algeria made a contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which was estimated at $15 million, to support the agency’s efforts to protect Palestinians and continue its humanitarian relief missions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, revealed in a post on his official page on the “X” platform, on Wednesday, that Algeria had made a financial contribution worth $15 million to support the agency.

The same official added that this contribution would enable the agency to continue its humanitarian relief missions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Mr. Lazzarini expressed his happiness for this excellent support for UNRWA and its work, noting that over the past months and amid existential threats to the agency, especially in Gaza, several countries, including Algeria, have come forward to help UNRWA.

The Commissioner-General of UNRWA thanked Algeria after the contribution it made to the agency this week, highlighting that these efforts allow the agency to continue protecting Palestine refugees and fulfill its mandate.

Algeria announced earlier, by decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the provision of an exceptional financial contribution of 15 million US dollars to UNRWA, which is an exceptional contribution that is in addition to what Algeria had previously taken the initiative to provide directly to the Palestinian Authority.
Algeria stressed that this initiative is a true duty and a firm responsibility that falls on its shoulders and on other members of the international community.

Algeria’s step comes within the framework of its efforts to support the Palestinian cause and pressure the occupation to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip and allow humanitarian aid to enter its residents.
