Palestinian President: “We Will Reconsider Relations With Washington”

  • The use of the veto is a blatant aggression against the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that the United States’ veto in the UN Security Council is a disappointing, unfortunate, shameful, irresponsible and unjustified position.

In an interview with the Palestinian News and Information Agency “Wafa” published on Saturday, President Abbas stated that “the use of the veto is a blatant aggression against the rights of the Palestinian people, their history, their land and their sanctities, and a challenge to the will of the international community.

The Palestinian President added, “The current American administration has not only reneged on its promises and commitments, but has also allowed Israel to weaken the Palestinian Authority by its silence regarding its theft of the Palestinian people’s money, despite its repeated claims that it wants to strengthen the Authority and increase its presence.”

He explained, “We worked with the Arab group and many European countries to create a climate that would lead to stopping the barbaric war and creating a common vision that would end the instability and tension, but America’s position was nothing but contempt and rejection of any vision that does not suit “Israel” and the wrong American policy”.

On the other hand, on Saturday, a Palestinian ambulance driver was martyred by Israeli settlers’ bullets that targeted a Palestinian village in the northern West Bank. The official Palestinian News Agency said: “An ambulance driver was martyred and two citizens were injured by settlers’ bullets during an attack they carried out on Al-Sawiya village, south of Nablus.”

In turn, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that its ambulance crews “transported a young man (48 years old) who was seriously injured by live bullets in the chest during confrontations in the town of Al-Sawiya (south of Nablus), and he was pronounced dead at a medical center.” It added in a later statement that “the young man whose death was announced was an ambulance driver,” without specifying whether he was killed by settlers or the Israeli army.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement: “An ambulance driver (Muhammad Awadallah Muhammad Musa) was killed by occupation bullets near the village of Al-Sawiya, while he was on his way to transport the injured from the village as a result of settler attacks.” In a video clip circulating on social media, one of the paramedics said that the ambulance crews went to Al-Sawiya after receiving reports of injuries from settler bullets, “and after loading the injured, direct fire was fired at the paramedic and the ambulance.”
