Mexico Extolls Algeria’s Efforts For Palestine’s UN Membership

  • Algeria has made great strides after the manifold reforms initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune

The Mexican Ambassador to Algeria, José Ignacio Madaraso Bolivar, praised Algeria’s role in the UN Security Council and its tireless efforts to enable the State of Palestine to obtain full membership of the United Nations.

This came out- according to a statement by the National People’s Assembly – during the reception of Mr. Oudaifa Zaghouane, Chairman of the Parliamentary Group for Friendship “Algeria-Mexico”, of the Ambassador of the United States of Mexico to Algeria, His Excellency Mr. José Ignacio Madaraso Bolivar.

In this context, the Ambassador noted that his visit comes within the framework of Algeria and Mexico’s celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In this respect, the two sides discussed the reality of relations between the two countries and reviewed the prospects for their development as well as areas of cooperation between them, especially since several commonalities unite their path and history.

In the field of bilateral cooperation, the two parties discussed ways to expand the partnership between the two countries in the fields of economy, culture, and education, and touched on the role of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating and embodying this partnership through the two friendship groups.

Regarding the international situation, the two sides agreed on the right of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples to self-determination. In this context, they reviewed the remnants of the brutal aggression against the Gaza Strip and urged the need to unite the world ranks to stop the heinous Zionist massacres committed against the Palestinians.

The head of the National People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, met with the Speaker of the Mexican House of Representatives, Marcela Girocaccio, on the sidelines of his participation in the proceedings of the 148th plenary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Geneva.

A previous statement by the legislative body explained that the two parties reviewed “the reality of bilateral relations and discussed the level of cooperation that brings the two countries together at various levels,” and they also discussed “ways to activate parliamentary diplomacy to raise it to the level of ambition of both sides.”

By the way, the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly affirmed that “Algeria has made great strides after the many reforms initiated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” reviewing in this context “the positive results achieved thanks to that,” especially with regard to “the opportunities afforded to women, In order to hold important positions, especially in the fields of health and education.”

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Mr. Boughali praised “Mexico’s position on the horrible massacres committed by the usurping Zionist occupation against the Palestinians,” explaining that Algeria “supports South Africa with regard to the emergency clause regarding Gaza, given its historical position in the International Court of Justice.”

For her part, Mr. Girocatsio praised “the strength of relations between the two friendly countries,” calling for “opening a political and parliamentary dialogue to upgrade bilateral relations.” She also touched on “various topics, most notably empowering women to access the horizons of political work.”
