First Tripartite Algerian-Tunisian-Libyan Consultative Summit Meeting

  • President Abdelmadjid Tebboune: “Tunisia is affected by everything and will not fall and will always remain firmly standing”

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, took part on Monday in the first consultative summit meeting that brought together the leaders of Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.

President Tebboune arrived in Tunisia, at the invitation of his brother, President of the sister Republic of Tunisia, Kais Saied, who received him at Carthage International Airport.

During the reception ceremony, the two presidents listened to the two countries’ national anthems before they were reviewed by a group of Tunisian honor guards who saluted them. After that, the two presidents shook hands with members of the two countries’ delegations.

In a brief statement to the press, President Tebboune stressed that Tunisia will not fall as some claim, saying, “May Almighty God protect Tunisia… Our hearts are always with the Tunisian people and with my brother Kais Saied… Tunisia is affected by everything and will not fall and will always remain standing,” while the Tunisian President praised the people for standing. Algeria’s permanent support for his country, adding, “May God protect Tunisia and Algeria and support the truth.”

A tripartite summit was launched on Monday evening between the three Maghrebian leaders of Algeria, Tunisia and Libya, in implementation of the agreement confirmed by the leaders of the three countries meeting in Algeria during the gas exporters’ summit, early last month, which stipulates the implementation of periodic meetings between the leaders of the three countries.

The Tunisian presidency had confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the meeting, which was prohibited by Tunisian President Kais Saied and Algerian Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al Menfi, would be an opportunity to participate in the first consultative meeting between the leaders of the three sister countries.

It is expected that the three presidents will discuss issues of economic integration and strengthen cooperation in various fields of endeavor, while intensifying and unifying efforts to confront economic and security challenges in a way that will benefit the peoples of the three countries positively.

This meeting comes as a continuation of the meetings held in Algeria, on the sidelines of hosting the summit of gas exporting countries, at the beginning of last March, where the three Maghrebian leaders held talks in this regard, which concluded with holding a summit every three months between those concerned, the first of which would be in Tunisia, according to What the Algerian presidency said at the time.

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had confirmed during his last media meeting that the tripartite consultative meeting aims to establish a Maghreb entity whose goal is consultation and is not hostile to any of the Maghreb countries.

President Tebboune added that there are matters of common concern to Algeria with the Tunisian and Libyan sides, adding, “Algeria does not engage in plans to isolate or harm any other party.”
