Algeria Has Made Great Strides In Digital Transformation

  • “Digital technology requires field work by providing an appropriate climate in order to implement it smoothly”

Researchers and specialists in information technology confirmed, on Saturday, in Algiers, that Algeria has made great strides in the path of digital transformation, calling for expanding consultation in this field to overcome obstacles so that various departments and sectors can be modernized.

During a meeting organized by the National Institute for Comprehensive Strategic Studies on digital development in Algeria, Mr. Younes Karar, a specialist and consultant in digitization, explained in his intervention that digitization has revolutionized the life of the Algerian individual since his connection to the Internet in 1993, as the country was able to achieve great progress in 2023. During his discussion of the goals of digitization in Algeria and its contribution to organization and improvement of services, the specialist mentioned that there are many sectors that have recently been able to implement the national strategy for digitization and getting rid of paper assets, such as the Ministry of Higher Education, where university students today are able to register or pay university and accommodation fees via world wide web.

In turn, Mr. Yazid Agdal, an information technology expert, spoke at length about the state of transformation from “paperwork” to “digitization,” considering that the recent signing of the High Prefecture of Digitization in Algeria with the Chinese “Huawei” group of an agreement to establish the Algerian National Center for Digital Services is considered – in itself – “An important achievement that reflects the strong will of the Algerian authorities to enter the world of digitization, which would help in managing projects and setting development goals in the field.”

He went on to say, “Digital transformation requires field work and providing the appropriate climate in order to implement it.” For his part, Mounir Moncef, Director of Coordination and Follow-up of Modernization Projects at the Ministry of Finance, stressed “the necessity of providing five conditions in order to achieve the goals of digitization and overcome digital obstacles, which he summarized as cooperation and partnership, along with coordination and communication, and finally knowledge.”

By the way, the Institute honored Professor Youssef Mentalachta in recognition of his contribution to the development of the field of information and communication technologies in Algeria. The Director-General of the Institute, Mr. Abdelaziz Medjahed, called on Algerian students to follow the example of this Mujahid and researcher who contributed to the development of the telecommunications system in the country.

In his speech, Mr. Mentalachta called on the rising generations to arm themselves with science and religion, which he considered “the weapon of success,” calling for the necessity of “communicating with national competencies abroad in order to return them to the homeland and exploit their capabilities” in the battle for construction and development.
