On Saturday, Algeria requested that a closed session of the UN Security Council be held on Tuesday, May 7, to discuss the issue of mass graves discovered in the Gaza Strip.

A source in the Security Council told Sputnik news agency, “Algeria has requested that closed consultations be held in the UN Security Council on the issue of mass graves in the Gaza Strip, next Tuesday.”

At the end of last April, Palestinian media outlets reported that “Palestinian emergency services found the bodies of 180 people in a mass grave on the lands of the Al-Nasser Medical Complex in the city of Khan Younes in the Gaza Strip.” They later stated that “the number of bodies discovered exceeded 390.”

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called in this respect for international investigators to be allowed immediate access to the sites of mass graves in the Gaza Strip. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, called for an independent international investigation into the discovery of mass graves.

Israeli army spokesman Nadav Shoshani said, “Israel did not participate in the burial operations.” Hamas called on the United Nations to send specialized teams to search for the missing and identify the dead, and for an independent international commission to investigate the mass graves that included the bodies of sick and wounded civilians, children and women.

On the other hand, the Palestinian News Agency, Wafa, said on Saturday that the Israeli occupation army recovered the body of a Palestinian after demolishing a besieged house near the city of Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank, and preventing ambulance crews from reaching him.

The official agency added, “An occupation bulldozer recovered the body of a martyr, at dawn on Saturday, while demolishing the besieged house in the town of Deir Al-Ghusoun, north of Tulkarm, without knowing his identity yet.” She added that the Israeli occupation army threw the body on the ground “and prevented the ambulance from reaching it.”

For its part, Palestine TV (official) said that the occupation army stormed the besieged house and opened fire inside it after destroying large parts of it. At midnight last night, the Zionist occupation army stormed the town of Deir Al-Ghusoun, surrounded a house and bombed it with missiles in an operation that included armed clashes that are still continuing until Saturday morning, according to eyewitnesses speaking to Anadolu news agency.
