
Sonatrach Inks Contracts With Energy Startups
- The national hydrocarbons company Sonatrach provided the opportunity for 40 young startups to present their projects and establish links with key players in the energy industry
Sonatrach organized a day dedicated to meetings with startups active in the energy sector, aimed at promoting national integration and encouraging cooperation with innovative companies, as it provided the opportunity for about forty young startups to expound their projects and establish links with key players in the energy industry.
During this meeting, which was organized at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Sonatrach, in the presence of the CEO of the group, Mr. Rachid Hachichi, its executives, and the officials of its subsidiaries, the participating startups presented presentations on the innovative solutions they offer, particularly in the field of energy efficiency, petroleum services, fuel production technologies, artificial intelligence for the petroleum industry, maintenance of solar energy systems, treatment and valorization of industrial waste in the energy sector, in addition to seawater desalination and wastewater treatment technologies.
On this occasion, the CEO of Sonatrach confirmed that the officials of the public group followed these offers with interest, “based on Sonatrach’s firm belief in the importance of national integration, and in view of its conviction that distinguished competencies are abundant within the country”.
Mr. Hachichi expressed the “great” desire for Algerian start-ups to become a major supplier of technological solutions, so that “it can overcome the challenges of tomorrow and win the bets presented in a competitive market where innovation has become the main driver of the energy transition”.
The CEO addressed the start-ups participating in the meeting, saying: “Our ambition is to expand ties with you and accompany you in your path related to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship. We will not be just a partner, but we aspire to be an accelerator for your development and growth”.
Regarding his assessment of the offers presented by the start-ups, Mr. Hachichi considered them to be “very good”, stressing that “any national product that meets the standards of its activity will be encouraged by Sonatrach and will be given priority”.
In this context, he stated that “Sonatrach, based on its deep belief in the solutions offered by young national institutions, has worked and is constantly working to adapt its procedures related to deals and the conclusion of contracts with the aim of promoting and strengthening local content, in line with the directives of the public authorities in this regard.”
As part of the work of this meeting, bilateral meetings were organized between start-ups and representatives of the Sonatrach Group to exchange ideas and identify business and partnership opportunities.
In statements to APS, representatives of start-up companies attending the meeting highlighted the importance of this event as a great opportunity offered by one of the largest groups in Algeria to support young and innovative entrepreneurs, noting that their products and services are likely to add value to the energy industry in the country.
While some of these start-ups are seeking to renew and continue their cooperation with Sonatrach, after having concluded contracts with it in recent years, other companies are working to convince Sonatrach of the effectiveness of their solutions in order to win contracts with it.
Sonatrach has signed contracts with a number of start-ups, especially in the upstream oil activity. Among these companies we find “Exceed Algeria”, “Lorus”, “Gensul”, “Castenbruck”, “RMB”, “Al-Kindi” and “Sof Drilling”.
