President Tebboune largely won the elections with 84.30 percent of the total voters
The President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Omar Belhadj, officially announced on Saturday the final results of the presidential elections, in which turn-out reached 46.1 percent, with the majority for the independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with 84.30 percent of the total voters.
Mr. Omar Belhadj explained, in a press statement at the headquarters of the Constitutional Court, in Algiers that the court’s decision came after reviewing the announcement of the National Independent Election Authority on September 8 regarding the provisional results of the presidential elections, and after reviewing the minutes of the vote counting and municipal census and the minutes of the concentration of results prepared by the provincial electoral committees and residents abroad.
Mr. Belhadj also added that the decision was adopted after studying two appeals filed with the registry of the Constitutional Court, by the candidates Hassani Cherif Abdelaali from the Movement of the Society of Peace and Aouchiche Youcef from the Socialist Forces Front, which were accepted in form and substance.
The latter affirmed that the decision also came after listening to the rapporteurs and examining various electoral documents, including reviewing the cancelled papers and agencies, correcting material errors and recording the final results of the vote.
Mr. Omar Belhadj revealed that the total number of registered voters inside and outside the country officially reached 24 million, 351 thousand and 551 people, while the total number of voters who voted reached 11 million, 226 thousand and 65 voters, with a participation rate of 46.10 percent, while the number of cancelled votes reached 1.764 million votes.
Mr. Belhadj added that the number of votes officially expressed reached 9 million, 461 thousand and 428 people, of which the independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune secured 7 million, 976 thousand and 291 votes, representing 84.30 percent, while Hassani ChErif Abdelali obtained 904 thousand and 642 votes, representing 9.56 percent, while Aouchiche Youcef secured 580 thousand and 495 votes, representing 6.14 percent.
The President of the Constitutional Court stressed that according to Article 85, paragraph 2 of the Constitution, victory in the elections is achieved by obtaining an absolute majority of the votes expressed by the voters, and since the candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune obtained an absolute majority of the votes expressed, he will be President of the Republic for a second term and will assume his duties immediately after taking the oath in accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution, and the announcement will be published in the Official Gazette.
Mr. Omar Belhaj underscored that the Constitutional Court, based on its constitutional jurisdiction and as an independent institution charged with ensuring respect for the Constitution and considering the importance of this entitlement, has been keen to ensure respect for the rights of candidates and voters alike and to preserve the integrity and validity of the electoral process. Belhaj also stressed that his body gave great importance to the appeals submitted by the candidates, which required it to conduct a process of auditing and correcting all the electoral documents it obtained from the provincial electoral committees and residents abroad. The final results of the presidential elections witnessed a noticeable change, especially since the head of the Independent Election Authority, Mohamed Charfi, had stated that the number of votes cast reached 5.6 million votes, in which Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune achieved an overwhelming majority with 94.65 percent, followed by Abdelali Hassani with 3.17 percent of the votes, then Youcef Aouchiche with 2.16 percent of the votes cast.
